Questions to Ask Your New Boss
You’re starting a new job, and you want to make the best possible impression. Your instinct is to be as agreeable as possible.
But if you’re not asking questions, that’s a mistake. The launch of your new role is the perfect time to ask questions so you’re setting yourself up for the best possible experience.
While you could expect that your boss would be the one to initiate the conversation, it’s also appropriate for you to seek clarification early on. It’s an aspect of “managing up” that helps you find common ground with your manager and can build trust. For instance, these are the kinds of questions you might ask:
🔹 What’s the best way to communicate within our company, with teams and in particular with you?
🔹 How can I get input and feedback on how I’m doing?
🔹 How can I add value to this team and the organization as a whole?
The more you know, the more you know, as they say. And when you start a new role at a new company, get to know what you need to know as quickly as possible.
