Advice for Job Seekers - Part 2
“Matthew, I’m always on time for interviews. I’m super friendly and get along great with people. They seem to love me. So why haven’t I gotten the job yet?”
As Matt Meuleners, executive partner at professional training and coaching company FOCUS Training, puts it:
"Every candidate is punctual, responsible and gets on well with people. To avoid blending in with the crowd, highlight unique elements of your personal brand.”
What is unique, different, or fascinating about you? What have you done in your life that other candidates have not?
That heritage-seeking trip around the world, that rock-climbing accomplishment, that memoir you wrote about your childhood or that roller derby you won — all cool anecdotes. And you just might tell them to the person who’s interested in genealogy, loves bouldering, reads prolifically or secretly loves to roller skate.
Your resume is a list of facts. Bring them to life with your cover letter, interview, and follow-up notes.
