If It’s Meant To Be, It Will Happen
“Matthew, if it’s meant to be, it will happen.”
This is the kind of advice people give to job seekers when they’re not sure what else to say. In my opinion, it’s a lazy sort of optimism not entirely grounded in reality.
The fact is, if you want to make it happen, you have to try. And when it comes to looking for a job, once you find that job you want, don’t just sit back and hope the stars align. Your competition certainly won’t be.
So what can you do to sharpen your odds? There are several proactive tactics.
👉 Network. You know someone who knows someone who works in the right place at the right company. Find that person. Send them an email or an InMail.
👉 When people don’t respond right away, don’t give up. Follow up.
👉 When they DO respond, follow up some more.
👉 And in your downtime, research this company and role so that when the conversations happen, you really know your stuff.
Because it won’t just happen on its own. You have to make it happen.
