Improving the Candidate Experience in a "Demoralized Job Market"
Since the start of the pandemic, job openings have increased by 35%... but job applications are down by more than that.
This disparity is causing hiring managers quite a bit of stress.
In what Harvard Business Review calls a “demoralized job market,” you need to think differently than the status quo of hiring. For instance, HBR recommends that you:
🔸 Simplify your hiring process so candidates go through less of a rigamarole
🔸 Be more transparent about pay and benefits
🔸 Be as honest and upfront as possible about the hours, schedule and other logistical elements of the job that might matter to the candidate
🔸 Identify the skills and competencies the ideal candidate needs to succeed in the role
🔸 Always speak plainly and avoid jargon
The above suggestions have clear benefits for the candidate because it helps set their expectations. Likewise, early and consistent screening allows the hiring manager to focus on promising candidates that are more of what they had in mind.
