Why Every Company Should Consider Elon Musk's Advice On Hiring
Love him or hate him, Elon Musk is an attention-getter.
Recently, the innovative made waves with a series of tweets calling for AI help at Tesla. “A PhD is definitely not required,” tweeted Musk.
Tesla is well known for being anti-establishment even in the progressive vanguard of tech. While other companies are desperate to find expert data scientists with advanced degrees, Musk just wants smart, intelligent people with vision, passion and a great work ethic. He doesn’t care so much about their credentials.
As someone who works with candidates and hiring managers every day, I sort of agree with Musk. Some of our society’s most highly regarded innovators were college and even high school dropouts.
Of course, education has its place and its worth. But as we move into the next era of the Information Age, being more open-minded to hiring candidates based on other skills might be worth our while to consider.
