How much does work culture matter when you’re trying to hire? A heck of a lot.
Especially in a competitive market for talent like we’re seeing now, if you can’t compete with an attractive work culture you simply can’t compete for the best talent.
We’d argue this is more true now than ever, as people living through a global pandemic have had time to do a lot of self-reflection. They’re looking for work with real meaning, and they’re making decisions more from the heart than the budget.
Making a good culture/value match goes both ways, of course. As a hiring manager, you want to hire people who are a good cultural fit.
Company vision and mission, the management style, the amount of flexibility in work hours and places, the technology your company uses to communicate and collaborate — all of these things come into play.
As you evaluate candidates, make sure to answer any and all questions about workplace culture with honesty and integrity.
