Should you share interview questions in advance?
Should you share interview questions with a candidate in advance of the interview? This is a contentious question for a lot of hiring managers.
The pros of sharing questions include allowing the candidate time to prepare their optimal answer giving you insight into their preparation and presentation skills.
Cons include having to be organized in advance of the interview. Some hiring managers also prefer the element of surprise that comes with the “pop quiz” style of interviewing, where you can assess how a candidate thinks on their feet.
Some of the hiring managers I work with adopt a hybrid approach. They share a select list of questions, but not everything. That gives them the ability to assess how a candidate thinks in the moment and test the candidate’s ability to communicate prepared thoughts.
The majority of our clients are now using PXT Select pre-hire assessments. The tool measures candidate thinking styles, behaviors, and interests against a job performance model. One of the available reports, the comprehensive selection report, gives hiring managers behavioral interview questions they can use in their interviews to dive into any areas where a candidate might fall outside of the target performance model saving them preparation time and improving the quality and effectiveness of their interviews.
