Settling Conflicts In A Remote-Work World
Even with the best possible work culture and HR strategy, itโs just human nature for co-workers to occasionally have conflicts.
In an office, those conflicts can be tricky to solve. But in a remote situation, it can be even more challenging.
As SHRM reports, a recent study showed that 81% of remote professionals have experienced workplace conflict, and 46% tend to use messaging apps to settle arguments.
The problem with having sensitive or emotional conversations over messaging is that itโs hard to read tone and nuance. Without facial expressions, body language and tone of voice, things are easily misconstrued.
The remote-work environment takes an extra level of communication skills. Leaders we work with at The Source and Recruit Company report that their best solution for resolving conflict with team members is to get on Zoom or the phone and try to sort it out in real time.
