How to Train Your Mind for High-Pressure Situations, According to an Olympic Coach
Have you recently been tested on your ability to stay cool under pressure?
So have many of us.
If you’d like to improve your skills in high-pressure situations, take some notes from peak performance psychologist Dr. Don Greene. He works with professional dancers and musicians to nail competitive auditions, and has coached Olympic athletes to the Gold medal.
Greene gives a few good pieces of practical advice:
Pump yourself up in practice sessions and use vigorous activity to get yourself energized.
Don’t ignore your nerves, but instead, try to harness that adrenaline.
Don’t strive for perfection and analyze every micro-movement.
Celebrate your successes. When you’ve finished something, always look back to see what you did well.
I’ve rarely witnessed a time as collectively stressful as this one. But I’m constantly amazed at the tough stuff my clients and candidates are made of!
