Why Would I Need a Recruiter if I Already Have a Hiring Manager?
Some people think of a recruiter as redundant to a hiring manager. Not so.
The hiring manager oversees hiring for a particular role on a team. They define the need to hire, lay out the responsibilities and qualifications of the role, and articulate how someone would thrive in this position. They also conduct interviews and make hiring decisions. These activities are interspersed with all their other managerial duties.
Recruiters, on the other hand, work full time to fill open roles. For starters, we’ve invested in the tools and technology to source and qualify the best talent. We spend our time proactively building networks of qualified candidates in addition to screening incoming applicants. We review resumes and job applications which requires curiosity and attention to detail. We manage talent pipelines by treating candidates as people, not as numbers, and we’re attentive to all stakeholders to ensure a positive candidate experience.
The relationship between a hiring manager and a recruiter is a close, symbiotic one. We support each other in hiring the best candidate for each role.
